Nairobi. Equity Group Holdings Plc has committed to partnering with the Tanzanian government to advance training for youth in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science at world-renowned universities.

This strategic alliance stems from the bank’s recognition of the robust strides made by the Tanzanian administration within the education sector.

The announcement was made on March 27, 2026 in Nairobi, following discussions between Tanzania’s Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Adolf Mkenda, and top leadership from Equity Group, including Group Managing Director, Dr James Mwangi, and Board Chairman, Prof Isaac Macharia.

During the meeting, Prof Mkenda emphasised that the government has established a deliberate priority to invest in science and technology by sponsoring students for international studies.

He noted that this strategy aims to ensure Tanzania cultivates a pool of experts specialising in AI, Data Science, and aligned sciences to keep pace with rapid global technological shifts.

Representatives from Equity Group Holdings Plc expressed their admiration for the Tanzanian government's vision.

They highlighted that since 1998, the bank has collaborated with various East African nations to educate young talent at prestigious international institutions.

This long-term investment has already proven successful, as many beneficiaries of these programmes now lead various departments and divisions within the bank and other major organisations.

As a result of these talks, Equity Bank has pledged to work hand-in-hand with the government of Tanzania to expand and sustain these capacity-building efforts.

This partnership is expected to act as a catalyst for a new generation of specialists who will spearhead the labour market and drive home-grown technological innovation.
