Tanzanian govt unveils new supply chain management policy
This policy initiative aims to stimulate economic growth and increase employment opportunities across the country
Dodoma. Prime Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has officially launched the National Supply Chain Management Policy 2025.
As he officiated the unveiling of the policy Dr Nchemba issued a stern directive to all authorities, institutions, and stakeholders responsible for the policy.
He demanded a significant shift in performance to ensure all duties align with the principles of good governance and the rule of law.
This approach is essential to meet the specific targets and objectives outlined in the new policy framework.
Audit reports from the Controller and Auditor General as well as the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority highlight a recurring issue.
These findings suggest that challenges in public procurement do not stem from a lack of policies, laws, or regulations.
Instead, the primary obstacles are the individuals entrusted with managing these established procedures.
Dr Nchemba noted that procurement activities are often undermined by the attitudes and habits of professionals and executives.
He argued that human conduct influences the sector more significantly than any legal or policy deficiencies.
The Prime Minister urged private sector stakeholders to develop robust strategies for cooperation with the public sector.
Such collaboration is necessary to fully exploit the opportunities identified within the 2025 policy.
Dr Nchemba described the launch as a historic milestone in the management of national assets and resources.
This policy initiative aims to stimulate economic growth and increase employment opportunities across the country.
It also seeks to build an inclusive and competitive economy owned by the majority of Tanzanians.
The new framework is designed to boost the production of goods and the delivery of essential services.
It establishes a unified policy guide that integrates every stage of the supply chain for the first time in Tanzania.
This comprehensive system covers procurement, clearing, receiving, and storage.
It also governs the use, distribution, and eventual disposal of public property.
The government expects these measures to foster a more balanced and efficient supply of goods and services nationwide.
