Dar es Salaam. Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has commended the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) for the effective coordination of the 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), popularly known as Sabasaba, held at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Trade Fair Grounds along Kilwa Road.
Speaking during the official closing ceremony on Sunday July 13, 2025, the Prime Minister praised TanTrade for notable improvements in the organisation and execution of this year’s fair.
He cited the increased number of exhibitors, innovative use of technology, and the introduction of clean energy-powered transport within the grounds as key highlights that elevated the standard of the 2025 edition.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate TanTrade for their commendable efforts. The increase in participation, the embrace of digital tools, and the deployment of environmentally friendly transport solutions clearly demonstrate the direction we should be heading as a country,” he said.
Mr Majaliwa further used the occasion to invite investors from across the globe to explore the vast and reliable markets that Tanzania offers. “Come and do business in Tanzania; there are guaranteed markets here,” he declared, addressing international guests in attendance.
He urged institutions involved in trade to intensify their efforts in identifying and accessing international markets, stressing that global competition demands proactive strategies to ensure Tanzanian products reach wider audiences.
“Let us take our goods and services beyond our borders. There is room for growth and opportunity in global markets,” he said.
The Prime Minister also called on producers and manufacturers to proudly display the Made in Tanzania mark on all locally produced goods and services, underlining its significance in promoting national identity and economic sovereignty.
He encouraged businesses to harness traditional media and digital platforms, including social media, to showcase Tanzanian products to the world.
The Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, a flagship event on the East and Central African calendar, continues to serve as a strategic marketing platform for Tanzanian and regional businesses.
Leveraging the connectivity and efficiency of the Dar es Salaam Port, the exhibition links businesses to markets in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, and Botswana.
Participation in the fair has grown substantially over the decades—from just over 100 companies in the late 1980s, to 1,041 in 1999, and 1,526 in 2006.
In the 2023 edition, the fair attracted more than 3,500 domestic companies, 200 foreign firms, and representatives from 26 countries, reinforcing its position as the largest exhibition of its kind on the continent.
With the successful completion of the 2025 edition, TanTrade’s role in strengthening trade promotion, enhancing market access, and positioning Tanzania as a competitive investment destination has once again been brought to the fore.
